A crunchy, distorted, edgy, dissonant and dark guitar and bass driven beat. The drums come in bringing in the pulse and the fire and energy. The guitar and bass work is stellar and very well done. The song is performed with passion and heart and the vocals are just and dark and haunting as its melody, with the vocals being rough, and scratchy and raw. There's a sense of anger or frustration in the vocals and they sound synthesized or some effect has been added. The overall mix and production need work as well as the dynamics are off. The melody is entirely too loud and makes the vocals muddled and inaudible because of it. The singer is also reminiscent of Scott Stapp of Creed.

Guitar and drums need more power in this mix. The drums, actually, are loud but not resonant or booming enough, I don't think. A decent vocal--sounding like something out of post-grunge and with traces of Layne Staley--and good guitar solo. The solo I think is the highlight. And the vocal melody is actually decently catchy, though I think the guitar part in the verses could have more interesting things going on with it--like some licks added into what largely sounded like a two-chord progression. Piano leading out the song could be mixed a bit lower and better blended with the guitar, and I actually think the guitar should be doing more to lead out the song (with the piano as more of an ornamental layer). Effectively, the song feels like a rock song with a rhythm guitar used as the lead guitar--but a lead part would be more involved or call more attention to itself in places than this one does, and have more flair to it. Or, at least there should be more layering to help beef up the sound of the guitar. Even with just one guitar here, the instrument could be doing more or could be tracked with additional layers, etc, to fill out the spaces of the verses better (it does a better job at this in the chorus). Little details in the playing like letting some of the verse chords ring out more, etc, could help. And the piano when it was introduced in the closing section had not been established as an element of the song before that, and so suddenly introducing this new instrument and at as loud of a volume and as prominently in the mix as the song does feels a bit unusual. Maybe the piano could be employed more subtly at the end of the song, then, again.
